Greymouth Fixture Opens To-Morrow
BIG CARD FOR PRESENTATION CLASS WELL REPRESENTED The Westport Trotting fixture last week ushered in the trotting carnival on the West Coast, and j was succeeded by the Reef ton meeting on Monday. To-day Hokitika is the scene of operations, and the circuit will terminate with the Greymouth function, which commences to-morrow. Ever since the opening of the Otira Tunnel, which gave easy access from the East Coast to the West, the Greymouth New Year trotting carnival has become more popular with Canteibuiy sportsmen. The splendid railway facilities, which in a large measure is duo to the activities of the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ Association, has created a keen desire on tho part of East Coast enthusiasts to visit the Golden West, with the result that the Greymouth meeting has become a happy hunting ground for owners from the other side of the ranges. The Coast club has naturally profited to a large extent through the rail connection, and its patrons arc now treated to high class sport, which is a replica of that obtaining at country fixtures on the East Coast.
