CLOTHIER ROBBED
THEFT AT PAEROA CLOTHING TAKEN IN BAGS (From Our Otcn Correspondent) PAEROA, To-day. During the New Year holidays the store of Mr. David McWatters, Paeroa, was broken into and goods to the value of between £4O and £SO were stolen. The store was raided between December 31 and January 2 and (be thieves escaped with a haul of suits, suitcases, travelling rugs and a dress-ing-case. Entrance had been gained by smashing the glass of a door at the rear of the shop and turning the lock from the inside. Mr. McWatter’s carries on the business of clothier and much of the stolen property belonged to the new season’s stock. The intruders had made a thorough examination of all the goods on the premises, taking only those which they considered the best. The stolen property was carried away in suitcases. WORKSHOP ENTERED INTRUDERS TAKE NOTHING PINCERS AND SNIPS LEFT BEHIND The tile-slab making workshop of Cr. J. Browne, Ltd., in Halsey Street, Freeman’s Bay, was broken into during the New Year holidays, but nothing was taken. Entrance was obtained in two places, the roof being forced and wire-netting over a window and battens being removed. Attempts were also made on the two doors, blit the lock on one door withstood the efforts, and heavy battens on the other held in place. When Mr. D. W. Denton, the only employee in the workshop, arrived at 8 o’clock this morning he found felting, straw and tiles scattered over the floor, but nothing was missing. Instead the intruders had eft two pairs of pincers and two pairs of snips. The workshop lias been entered on two or three occasions previously, and on one occasion Mr. Denton lost all his tools.
