POLICE AID “PIRATES”

THEFT FROM "SHIPPE” ELECTRIC BULBS TAKEN Probably thinking that thieving from "Ye Oide Pirate Shippe” was merely a retributory measure, Leo Francis Miller took two electric light globes from the trees outside last evening. This morning at the Police Court, Miller, a -wood-worker aged 25, pleaded guilty to the theft of the bulbs which were valued at ss. Sub-Inspector McCarthy considered that Miller’s action was more mischief than actual theft. "Unless it is checked now,” he said, "there will be a great deal of larrikinism going on over near the new amusement place. Miller only wanted to be smart, and jumped for the bulbs which were strung on trees, being part of the outside illuminations." The sub-inspector mentioned that Miller had given a false name and three false addresses since his arrest. A line of £2 was imposed, an appeal for time to pay being refused. Miller was ordered to pay the cost of the two bulbs, which were valued at ss.
