EDENDALE

“HEART OF MARYLAND”

The attraction at the Edendale Theatre this evening is Dolores Costello in Warner Brother** screen revival of Belasco’s thrilling melodrama, “The Heart of Maryland.” Unusually beautiful settings and superb photography, a strong story and a large and competent cast all tend to make the picture a masterpiece. Lincoln, Lee, Grant, and other celebrities of the period are impersonated with, amazing faithfulness, and the tense electric atmosphere of the times Is captured to the degree of uncanniness. But after all it is the delicate and shimmering loveliness of Miss Costello, with her subtle interpretation of all shades of feeling, which make the piece so glamorous and so poignant. “Hello, Cheyenne,” the second feature, is a story of the first telephone wires in the West, with Tom Mix in the leading role.

BRITANNIA “SIR LUMBERJACK” Redolent of the great pines in which most of the exciting action takes place, and with a love story as sweet as the purling of a mountain brook running through it, “Sir Lumberjack/’ the latest F. 8.0. picture, starring Lefty Flynn, will be shown at the Britannia Theatre this evening. "Sir Lumberjack" is an original story by Victor Gibson, and it is easily the star’s most outstanding performance. Flynn supporters will love the big, athletic Lefty in so dynamic and dramatic a role as that of young Bill Barlow, junior, the son of a wealthy lumber baron, who for the first time in his career, finds out what work means in the role of a lumberjack. There are spectacular features to “Sir Lumberjack/’ too; notably the narrow escape from the falling tree, the rescue of the girl by Mr. Flynn, and the chase in the logging engine. "Hot News," the second feature, is a thrilling story of movie gazette cameramen, starring Bebe Daniels. BEACH HAVEN CABARET Beachhaven Cabaret, one of the most popular of the outlying cabarets, will be open aga*n on Saturday evening, when dancing will be enjoyed to music by the excellent orchestra.
