riE curtain was rung down at Ellerslie to-day on Auckland’s seven days racing and trotting carnival under brilliant conditions. Yaqui was slow away, Sleepy Sol being the first to show out from Lady’s Boy, Ballymoy 11., Le Choucas, Hyde Park, Talisker, and Sir Russfll, with The Lover tailing off. Running past the six, Lady’s Boy had charge from Sleepy Sol, Ballymoy 11., Talisker, Hyde Park, Sir Russell, Branson, Le Choucas. and Archeno. Mervette improved her position crossing the top, and was on the outside of Lady’s Boy, Sleepy Sol, and Branson turning for home, with Talisker and The Lover handy. Lady’s Boy hung on well, and it was in the last couple of strides that Mervette got him, to win by a head. Talisker was half a length away third, and next were Sleepy Sol, Hyde Park, Archeno, The Lover, Branson, Ballymoy 11., Le Choucas, and Yaqui.

The result saw Gay Ballerina again score convincingly. The filly was first out, followed by Imperial Prince, Tea Queen, Flying Prince, Eaglet, and Bennie, and she was attended across the top by Eaglet, Tea Queen, Imperial Prince, and Flying Prince. Gay Ballerina was the first to tourn for home from Eaglet, Tea Queen, Imperial Prince, and Bennie, and though challenged hotly by TeaQueen she won by half a length, with ’•".aglet three-quarters of a. length away third, just in front of Imperial Prince and Bennie. Handicap, which proved a good betting race. Bright Glow £2,023 was a better favourite than White Fang £1,891, with sound support for Pegaway £1,678 and Royal Doulton £1,340. A good start was effected, Concentrate immediately taking up the running from Catkin, Ohinemuri. Bright Glow, Pegaway, Golden Wedding, White Fang, Siaosi and Corinax. Ohinemuri had taken charge when the back stretch was entered, leading Flying Juliet, Bright Glow, Corinax, Siaosi, Golden Wedding, White Fang, Pegaway, Transformer and Oratrix. The field bunched crossing the top, but Ohinemuri and Flying Juliet were still at the head of affairs, the latter going to the front when turning for home, with Ohinemuri, Siaosi, Golden Wedding, Vertigern and Corinax handy. A great race ensued to the post, Vertigern, Concentrate, Oratrix and Flying Juliet doing best, the judge being unable to separate the first-mentioned pair, with Oratrix a long head away, third, and Flying Juliet fourth. Then came Corinax, Bright Glow, Pegaway, Catkin, Siaosi, Transformer and Royal Doulton. AUCKLAND HURDLE RACE Of £500; 2 miles 5 RAMBLIN’ KID (J. Barr, Te Rapa. Won by six lengths, a similar distance •between second and third. Time, 3.45 4-5. Wharncliffe was favourite-elect for the Auckland Hurdle Handicap, but he never flattered his supporters at any period of the journey, finally refusing to jump the fence at the sevenfurlong post. Mangani, second choice, crashed early at the second jump, which also saw Salamander’s progress checked, and brought down Farndon. Bright Land led over the first two jumps, and then Ramblin’ Kid went to the front and piloted Bright Land, Clockwork, Potoanui, Lady Spalpeen and Glenotus past the stands, with Wharncliffe well back. Along the back the order was Ramblin’ Kid, Bright Land, Clockwork, Potoanui, Lady Spalpeen, Glenotus, and Wedding March, but the hurdle crossing the top saw the downfall of Bright Land, which left Ramblin’ Kid with a good lead into the straight, from Clockwork, Wedding March and Glenotus. The leader was never bustled to win by half a dozen lengths from Wedding March, who beat Clockwork by a similar distance, with Glenotus, Potoanui and Lady Spalpeen following at intervals. 34th ROYAL STAKES Of £1,000; 6 fur HONOUR 1 CEREMONY 2 STAGHUNTER 3 Scratched.—The Begum, Clopton, Currajong, Awamutu.
