EDUCATION COUNCIL

CONFERENCE IN CANADA NEW ZEALAND DELEGATES The National Council of Education last year sent Professor W. F. Osborne, of the University of Manitoba, to tour New Zealand and Australia to interest the two Dominions in the work of the council, and to ask them to co-operate by being present at the Vancouver Conference of the council. The report of Professor Osborne, which has reached New Zealand, says that he spent 25 days in the country and delivered 15 addresses to chambers of commerce, rotary clubs, universities and schools. The late Reform Government gave an official promise that it would be represented at the conference, and Professor Osborne hopes that the present Government will consider favourably the decision of the last Ministry. Mr. Frank Milner, the headmaster of the Waitaki Boys’ High School, has definitely promised to visit the conference and Sir James Gunson has also expressed his desire to be present, if his engagements will permit. The New Zealand section of the report concludes as follow: “In each of the four cities we have, under direction either of the chamber of commerce o.r of the rotary club, a large eclectic committee that has undertaken, and with much enthusiasm and goodwill, to endeavour to send respectively local contingents to a National Delegation, which I venture to picture as consisting of from 15 to 20 members.”
