DARING INTRUDERS
HOUSES RANSACKED BURGLARS IN POSSESSION Two instances of owners returning to their homes to find burglars in possession were reported on Saturday. A resident of Herne Bay had a struggle with an intruder, and a resident of Liverpool Street, Epsom, chased his man through a plantation. On Saturday evening Mr. D. L. Goldwater, of Ai-gyle Street, Herne Bay, returned home to find a burglar in possession. On entering the house he heard a noise upstairs and on making investigation he saw a man endeavouring to open a drawer. Mr. Goldwater made a dash for the man and caught him, but he broke away and dashed from the room and downstairs with the owner in pursuit. Mr. Goldwater followed his man along Argyie Street, but the burglar got away. Apparently the visitor had not time to steal the money and valuables which were in the house, as nothing was missing. A daring and impudent case of house-breaking is also recorded from Liverpool Street, Epsom. The family had left by motor-car to spend the afternoon at the beach, but having occasion to return home before getting very far on the journey, the owner found that the dwelling had been entered. The intruder escaped through a window, and although chased, he got away in the thicket of a neighbouring plantation. Investigation showed that the marauder had removed screws from a window to gain admission, and ransacked various drawers in the bedroom. Clothes were strewn in all directions, but nothing apparently was taken, the cuiprit evidently being iu quest of money.
