MRS. MARIA BARTON One of the earliest settlers in the North ALickland district, Mrs. Maria Barton, has died at the age of 94. Arriving in New Zealand in the sailing ship William Miles 66 years ago, Mrs. Barton and her husband, the late Mr. Henry Barton, settled in the Otamatea district, living at Paparoa for 36 years. Mrs. Barton then came to Auckland, where she lived until two years ago, when she moved to Maungaturoto. She was one of the oldest pioneers in the North, and one of the few surviving colonists who came out by the William Miles. Mrs. Barton -is survived by three daughters, Mrs. S. Mills, of England, Mrs. J. Turner, of Maungaturoto, and Miss E. E. Barton, of Auckland. There is a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
