HANDICAPS FOR RACES GOOD WEATHER LIKELY (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, Sunday. The cyclonic weather of the last week cleared to-day, holding promise of good weather for the week-end regatta to be held at Onerahi on New Years Day. The following handicaps have been declared for the launch and yacht events:— Regatta launches with speed of eight knots or over, for the Whangarei Harbour Board Cup: Rosemary, scr; Stude, lm; Valencia, 91; Kopuru, 10; Miss Pat, 13; September Morn, 131; Whate, 15; Wyoma, 15; Kiatere, 16; Hermione, 20; Florence, 21; Noruna, 22; Alberta, 25; Daphne, 25; Helen C., 25. Trader Launch Race: Rakanui, scr; Eva, 3m; Adventure, 11; Oleo, 14; Pono, 14; Rose, 16. The following will compete in a single sculls event for members of the Whangarei Rowing Club, the winner to receive a silver cup:—H. Hannah, scr; T. Clarke, 30sec; C. Storey, 30sec. The Hamilton Rowing Club has entered crews in all the rowing events. AT TAURANGA FORTY EVENTS ON PROGRAMME (Special to THE SUN) TAURANGA, Sunday. The remaining events of the Tauranga regatta will be held on New Year’s Day. About 40 events are on the programme. Sailing events for seven-footers will include a championship. There are to be races for boats from *l4ft to 18ft and for outboard motor-boats. Rowing, swimming, diving and miscellaneous events will be included in a varied programme. Special trains are being run from the main northern centres.
OUTBOARD RACING SPORT AT BUCKLANDS Ten outboard speed boats competed on Saturday in the races at Bucklands Beach, under the control of the New Zealand Outboard Motor-Boat Association. The three general handicaps and the race for the Dewar Cup for B class boats gave good sport, and the large fields made the racing all the more interesting. The course was over a half-mile lap, each race consisting of five laps. The handicapping was well done, and all the finishes were very close. The officials of the day were: Starter, Mr. F. J. Fawcett; handicapper, Mr. C. R. Wilson; judge, Captain R. Holmes; timekeeper, Mr. W. A. Wilkinson. The results are as follow: First General Handicap.—Nympli, 2m 255, 1; Vave, 2m 15s, 2; Humbug, scr, 3. Time, 3.30.40. Second Handicap Race.—Miss Arawa, 1; Nymph, 2; Humbug, 3. Time, 4.10.0. Third General Handicap.—Nymph, 2m 10s, 1; Miss Arawa. 15s, 2; Humbug, scr, 3. Ti«ie, 5.5.0. Very close finish. Dewar Cup, for D class motors.—Miss Akarana. scr, 1.
