RUSSELL, To-day. 5A strong easterly gale has s*«ee«aitated a postponement of the sailing events at the annual Russell regatta scheduled for to-day. Outboard championships and launch traces are being held in the shelter of township’s bay. Despite ths severity of the conditions Jacht crews prepared to race, but ?sked for a postponement until tomorrow as all hands were tired out a-fter the arduous voyage from whangarei. Shortly before 8 a.m. the gale, which had swept north of Auckland all night, attained its maximum intensity, and the rain barrage was so heavy that boats 50 yards away could only be seen dimly. The big keeler Ariki dragged her BJtcnor and bore down broadside across tne bows of the whaler Hananui. The came from belqw just in time to her clear.
