NAVAL OFFICER’S “CATCH”
MAKO, KING FISH AND LIVE SHEEP (From Our Oxen Correspondent J RUSSELL, Wednesday. Surgeon-Commander A. H. Joy, of H.M.S. Diomede, who is spending his Christmas holidays on the fishing grounds off Cape Brett, accompanied by Colonel Mubin, had a unique catch to-day. leaving toiled all day in a heavy sea off Pierey Island without catching anything they decided at 6.30 p.m. to make for their camp on Urupukapuka Island. In the vast expanse of water leading up to the Albert Passage the naval officer descried what appeared to be an animal struggling for its life. The launch Reliance was immediately turned toward the object, when it was found to be it sheep which had evidently fallen off the precipitous cliffs in the vicinity. Owing to the heavy sea running at the time it was with some difficulty the animal was captured and hauled aboard the launch practically exhausted. It recovered, after a while. Next day the naval officer was more successful as he landed a make weighing 2561 b, and a kingfish weighing 491 b
