GOOD SWIMMING TIMES
PONSONBY CARNIVAL INTERESTING DIVING Good times were put up by competitors at the Ponsonby Swimming Club’s first-of-season carnival at the Shelly Beach Baths yesterday afternoon. Ena Stockley was in good form and won the women's 100yds in fair style without having much competition.^ Barry young, ex-New South Wales diver, and W. Hassan pleased the good attendance of spectators in the final of the diving. Hassan won in the deciding dive. r de Loree had to gu e Jack Enwright a second in the 100yds and even then managed to head the former champion home. He Lore* is proving himself to be a formidable handicap swimmer. Jean Thomson showed great pluck in the 220yds breaststroke and hung on to the leaders all the way. She was given first place when Ansell, who touched the rope first, was disqualified for not swimming the correct style. Mr. M. J. Savage, M.P., opened the carnival. Shaw, ss, 2. Time, 3Ss. Won by seven yards. Corfu Dive—H. Neale, 1; J. Poster, 2. Junior Boys’ 50yds Handicap—First heat: A. Lockie, ss, 1; J. H. Davey. Is, Time, 30 2-ss. Second heat: R. Pidgeon, scr, 1; E. Parker, 7s, 2. Time, 34 3-ss. Final: A. Lockie, 1; R. Pidgeon, 2. Time, 31s. Won easily. 50YDS CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP H. Farnell, 1; S. Brooking, 2; G. Johnston, 3. Time, 29 2-ss. Won by a touch after a great race. 220YDS BREASTSTROKE HANDICAP Miss J. Thomson (Parnell), ISs, 1; A. Clarke (Waitemata), 17s, 2. Time, 2m 50 4-ss. Won by four yards. Aliss Thomson swam exceptionally well. 100YDS WOMEN'S HANDICAP Aliss E. Stockley (Grammar) scr, 1; Miss D. Grant (Grammar), 3s, 2. Time, 67 4-ss. The eight swimmers in the final made the race interesting throughout. TAURANGA OCEAN RACE OFFICIAL FINISHING TIMES The official finishing times on Sunday of contestants in the annual Auck-land-Tauranga yacht races are as follow: —Nga-Toa, 4.45.58; lorangi, 4.47.15; Queenie, 11.32.25; Alahaki, 11.36.53; Vanitie, 12.14.14. On corrected times the result is: Nga-Toa, 1; lorangi, 2; Alahaki, 3; Queenie, 4: Vanitie, 5. Wairiki had not finished at midnight. Nga-Toa’s time from Auckland to the winning mark off North rock, Alount Maunganui, was 25h. 30m. 58s. Finishing times in the mullet boat race were:—Starloch, 10.31.15; Celox, 11.51.5. Spray had not finished at midnight. The boats were placed in that order. «.
