CHRISTMAS IN GAOL
GIFTS FOR PRISONERS Services were conducted by the Anglican and Roman Catholic Churches at the Mount Eden Prison yesterday morning, and afterwards a Christmas dinner was served. 40 plum puddings being included on the menu. Through the Discharged Prisoners’ Aid Society, the Auckland City Mission and the Salvation Army, Christmas gifts including cigarettes, cake, fruit and confectionery were provided for the prisoners. The society also remembered the wives and families of the prisoners, gifts of toys and groceries being given wherever possible.
