RACING CAR IN TRIAL ON MANGERE SPEEDWAY
FORMING OF DIRT TRACK As a result of a wager, a car raced on the Manger© speedway yesterday, doing the 1 1-5-mile circuit at a speed of over 40 m.p.h. The previous day a, motor-cycle managed over 51 miles an hour in covering one lap. Although it was only two months ago that the forming of the dirt-tract on Mr. G. Hennings’s property was commenced, these performances show the rapid progress *being made. The wager attending yesterday i event was one for £lO between Mr, .Henning and Mr. H. Butcher, anothd member of the racing committee. Whej the Auckland Automobile Associatioi decided to abandon the annual cal races on the beach and to organise 3 dirt track meeting for some time early next year it was considered very doubti ful, by many members, that it would be possible to foAn a track in time for the next meeting. As a result, it wai wagered as to the possibility of a caf covering a lap in two minutes before the end of the year. Although there are still many rough patches, a seven horse-power racing car managed t(j cover the circuit in lmin. 47sec. The Auckland Automobile Asso* ciation’s provident fund will be benefited by the wager.
