DIFTING FOR BEAUTY
During summer the woman who would keep her complexion clear and free from unbecoming blotches and spots must be very careful in regard to her diet. Meat, especially red meat, should be reduced to the smallest possible amount. Twice or three times a week is ample, for led meat is difficult to digest during hot weather and is very heating. At no time is it good tor the complexion, but it is especially bad on very hot days. Chicken, white fish and fruit are the ideal diet at such a time. Salads are Good The bacon and eggs breakfast, so popular in many homes, should be replaced by one of poached eggs and fresh fruit. Salads and some green vegetables should find a place at every meal; in fact, it is a good plan to serve a salad at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The idea that salads, on account of the dressing served with them, are fattening need not deter anyone from taking them, for salad dressing can be made quite non-fattening if lemon juice is mixed with the olive oil. Add the oil very sparingly and the lemon with a liberal hand, and there will be no fear of extra inches being added. Drink Plenty of Water Lemonade, made with fresh lemons, and barley -water are the ideal drinks for hot weather, and either of these can with advantage replace the usual afternoon tea. At least three pints ot some such liquid should be taken daily by the would-be beauty during the hot weather, and if she will start the day with a glass of lemonade, without sugar, either hot or cold as preferred, instead of her usual cup of tea or chocolate, she will find that both her figure and her complexion will be much improved. Reduce the Sweets The number of sweets and chocolates taken should also be reduced. Sweets help to make one thirsty and heat the blood during warm weather, and everything that helps to heat one’s blood increases the possibility ot blotches and those ugly hot weather flushes -which are so detrimental to beauty. If wine is taken it should be in the form of a “cup.” Cocktails should also be barred or at least reduced to one a day.
