WOMAN’S MEAGRE ALLOWANCE To the Lambeth (London) magistrate the wife of a builder’s labourer complained that her husband allowed her only 3s a week pocket money. She alleged that he did not adequately provide for her. Chief Warrant Officer Miller stated the woman told him that her husband paid the household expenses. Mr. Oulton (to woman): What happens when you want to buy a new —I have to put up with what I have got. You don’t think 3s a week pocket money enough?—No, sir. You have put up with it for four years?—l have done it for the sake of peace and quietness.—Mr. Oulton granted the woman a summons.
