Keen Try-Out at Ellerslie
CUP HORSES IN FORM WITH the Auckland summer fixture due to open on Boxing Day, and the great majority of visiting horses having already made their appearance, the track work at Ellerslie is now commencing to be of real importance. This morning there was plenty of galloping to hold the attention, and some fine performances were registered.
conditions were almost ideal, with an overcast sky making visibility good throughout the early morning. For fast work the outside of the course proper was thrown open, and this was freely used. The trestles were out about 35 feet. Fast times were again recorded, showing the track to be in excellent order, with the new portions of the course all in favour of speed. A number of Auckland Cup horses were given strong work, Corinax, Count Cavour, Laughing Prince and Mask earning additional friends on the strength of their pleasing efforts. Con-
sent did a rattling six furlongs, and Ceremony was responsible for a dashing half-mile. These were the outstanding gallops of the morning, executed before the breakfast interval. Also went well in their work were Lysander, Awarere, Aussie, Papatu, Hoylake, Talisker, Pure Tea, Honour, Gold Tinge, Desert Song, Cimabue, Staghunter and Sir Russell. The gallops are dealt with in the order of Cup horses, Railway Handicap candidates, the two-year-olds, and finally those that do not come under any of these headings.
