The Open Road
Motorists’ Holidays TO BEACH AND FOREST Hampers will soon be packed and running boards laden for the holiday tours. Auckland motorists are spreading out over the pleasure resorts of the province. Some of them are going as far south as Canterbury and others will make the adventurous trip to the end of the Bominion, Spirits Bay. The Auckland Automobile Association has issued almost 2,000 itineraries of short tours of about 200 or 300 miles and also ot extended trips running into four-figure mileage. Provided there is no heavy rain many motorists will go north to beach resorts, the Waipoua kauri forest and Trounson Park, but Rotorua and Taupo will undoubtedly be the most popular places. At Rotorua the camping ground is well equipped. New Plymouth and Wanganui always attract motorists, Taranaki roads having a good reputation. Those who wish to visit National Park are advised to go through Taupo, as the King Country route is indifferent.
