AUCKLAND TROTS EPSOM ACTIVITIES GOOD TRACK TO-DAY The training circuit at Epsom this morning was in excellent order, and being on the fast side the times generally were of a flattering description. Although, there were a great number of horses at work, the majority were content to indulge in medium pace work, but a number of visitors were bustled along and pleased the spectators —who were in strong force — by their displays. Prince Pointer, unhoppled, executed a useful task over several circuits. The gallant black has never looked in better condition, and his appearance is most creditable to W. J. Tomkinson. Young Blake, who is in great heart, trotted two miles faultlessly, putting plenty of dash into his essay. While not out against the watch, the effort was a smart one.

Elzear went over a similar course and showed a glimpse of her brilliancy by coining over the final circuit in rare style. “Tomky’s” bracket will be well fancied in the Rowe Cup. Wharepiana (free-legged) was sent over a few circuits at a strong pace, with a good brush over the last half mile. M. B. Edwards has this mare very well., Roma Bingen created quite a lot of interest by her display over two miles. H. Kinnimont’s mare never put a foot wrong, and trotted in solid fashion. When taken over the last mile by the promising pacer, Peter Lloyd, Roma showed a fine burst of speed. Peter Lloyd's display was distinctly good, and Kinnimorjt has a capable novice in Peterwah's son. There is absolutely no foundation in the rumour that the four-year-old pacer is joining F. Gilchrist's stable, as his present owner-trainer has no intention of parting with Peter.

Cardinal Logan set the touts talking by the able manner in w'hich he got to the end of twelve furlongs in smart time, and he gave the impression that he would have gone the extra half without any difficulty. One of the best sprint essays of the morning was that of Goldman, who hopped away at the ten-furlong post. When the mile disk was reached, Fred Gilchrist gave him more rein, and the old pacer finished the journey in great style. Peterwah (Bob Tasker) and Napland (R. Fisken, jun.) trotted resolutely over several circuits, the former displaying fine dash over the final half mile. Machine Gun (M. Edwards) and Jean McElwyn (W. Tomkinson) were associated in a two-mile bout, which was accomplished in a pleasing manner. The way Jean stuck to the big horse gained her many firends for her Parnell Handicap engagement. The Rowe Cup candidate, Star, stepped over two miles at a solid clip, running home from the half-mile post in splendid fashion. The Feilding- owned mare has never been in better trim.

Billy Carbine (G. Robertson) and Ahseline (J. Gee) were on their best behaviour while traversing two miles, and there was nothing between them at the finish. Trustworthy joined in for half a mile unhoppled, and while standing the trotters up several lengths was looking at them when the pos.t was reached.

A nice effort was witnessed between Free Advice (J. Bryce) and Evelyn Locanda (Andy Bryce), but the half-dozen lengths lost by the former at the start of the twelve furlongs’ bout was sufficient to allow E. Cucksey’s mare to have a slight advantage at the finish. Both mares are in good order. AWAPUNI TRAINING RIDER FOR FIRST SIGHT Press Association PALMERSTON N., To-day. Splendid conditions prevailed at Awapuni this morning for training operations, the major portion of the work being carried out on the plough, which was in excellent order. The gallops took place on this track, unless otherwise mentioned. Teremoana, Miss Field, and Grand Acre finished together at the end of five furlongs in 1.7. Hymestrason and C-larinda left seven behind in 1.35, the former having an advantage. Novar and Keddar ran a mile and a-quarter in 2.28, neither being extended, and they finished on terms. Imperial Spark drew right away from Blimp at the end of a mije, the Cup candidate fulfilling his task attractively in 1.45 2-5. Rowley had St. Melba as a companion over seven furlongs, left behind in 1.33 2-5, the last half in 54 2-5. Vexatious finished stronger than Mister Gamp, with Elysianor two lengths away, in a seven furlong task in 1.34 2-5, the last five in 1.8 2-5. and Callanmore went half a mile in 52 3-5. Inflame hung on better than usual to finish on terms with Moutoa Fume over six in 1.22 2-5, and Hot Springs had an advantage over King Hal on number three grass, their half-mile being left behind in 50 1-5. Peneua was too good for Grand National over seven in 1.38, and Moutoa Treasury was clear of Bobbin at the end of six in 1.18, «.n attractive effort. There was little between Singleton and Polonett at the end of half a mile in 52 3-5. The Cup candidate, First Sight, went a strong round on the plough, and was anxious to speed up. Home Made was going better than Atareria at the end of a mile in 1.47 1-5, and Kalos was in front of Locarno at the close of a mile, the last six in 1.25. Statuary was well clear of Killogie over half a mile scamper on number three grass, breaking 50. Patearoa left five behind in 1.6, and Archeria gave Bisrank three lengths’ start over six furlongs on number three grass, but gathered his companion up in the run home to complete the task in 1.19. Elicit and Calluna went a round of four fences, and both jumped well, but the pace was not on. Roburant was sent over four fences, and although he stopped at the first he jumped fairly well thereafter. R. S. Bagby will ride First Sight in the Cup, and C. Broughton will pilot Silver Paper in the Fitzherbert Handicap. W. Broughton has been engaged for Miss Field, Opa and Imperial Spark.
