CONSTABLE DISMISSED
HAD UNREGISTERED REVOLVER DENIED POSSESSION Although denying that he possessed it, Robert J. Hannah was recently found to have an unregistered revolver among his belongings at the Police Barracks. His dismissal from the force resulted, Hannah was charged at the Police Court this morning with having an unregistered firearm in his possession, Mr. J. S. Burt entering a plea of guilty on his behalf. “Inspector McCarthy said that while inspecting the barracks he had become aware that Hannah had a revolver He asked the constable, who denied that he had any firearms. A search of Hannah’s effects had revealed the revolver. Mr. J. S. Burt asked that the charge be dismissed on payment of costs. Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: What, because he is a constable? Had he not been a constable I might have considered it. r * Hurt: But he is no longer a .constable. He has been dismissed irom tho Force. The revolver was a keepsake from a man now dead. Hannah had not thought of registering the weapon, which in any case was out of order. Mr. McCarthy remarked that the gun had only a small spring broken and could be easily put in working oroer. Mr. Hunt; I am frightened to ask whether this is the only reason for the man’s dismissal.
Mr McCarthy: It is the cause but not the reason. It is the fact that he made a denial to me that mokes it so serious.
Hannah was lined «£1 and costs, Mr. Burt remarking that the man intended to apply for reinstatement.
