WANTS SUPERVISION
YOUNG MAN SENT TO BORSTAL nine theft charges “He wants supervision and plenty of it,” said CH ief-Detective Hammond of Robert Giles this morning. Giles was before the Court on 12 charges. Nine charges of theft, one connected with a cheque for £74, two offences under the Defence Act, and one charge of breaking the terms of a probation order, were admitted on behalf of Giles by Mr. Allan Moody. The charge in respect of the cheque was reduced to £SO so that it also could be dealt with summarily. “This young man has been thieving in different boardinghouses,” said Chief-Detective Hammond. “He was friendly with a young man, who drove a rural delivery van in Hamilton, and stole the cheque from a letter. We have been looking for him for two months. He needs reformative detention.” Mr. W. J. Campbell, Probation Officer, recommended that the young man be sent to the Borstal for three years and sentence was passed accordingly. Mr. Moody agreed that the Borstal would be the best place for Giles. “He must be shown that he cannot go on like this,” commented counsel.
