MORNINGSIDE RAILWAY FALSE ALARM NEW BUILDING FOUNDATION A rumour that a start had been made with the tunnel for the Morninyside -railway deviation was abroad in the city this morning. It was suggested that Sir Joseph Ward’s policy of railway extension had begun with Auckland. Workmen were digging a deep trench in the hill opposite tha railway yards in Anzac Avenue, and the spoil was being tipped down a slide and carted away in motor trucks, it was said. Investigation proved that it was a start being made with the foundations of the new £IO,OOO building for Motor Specialities, Ltd. The piles at the back of the building have to go down 33ft, which is lower than the level of Beach Road. The building. which will be five storeys high at the back and three storeys in Anzac Avenue. is being built by C. A. Lee and it is expected to be complete in May. Motor Specialities, Ltd./s former premises in Emily Place were bought by the Native Land Department recently, and the firm has had to get a new home under way quickly.
