SHIPS TO BURN OIL

FIVE P. AND 0. STEAMERS AUSTRALIAN SERVICE (United Service) LONDON, Wednesday. In order to increase the efficiency, speed, cargo space and comfort of passengers the five principal Peninsular and Oriental branch line steamers in the Australian trade, the Baradine, Balranald, Ballarat, Bendigo and Barrabool, will be converted into oil-burn-ing vessels by the new Bauer-Welch installation. The Baradine will be equipped at the end of March, so as to enable it to sail in April. The others will be equipped as they arrive from Australia, and will b<=* completed by June. The passenger accommodation will be renovated and the ventilation improved.
