POLL POSTPONED.—The West Australian Legislative Assembly passed a Bill to postpone the five-yearly Prohibition referendum from 1930 to 1935. BRITAIN UNDER FOG. The greater part of Britain is fog-bound, and there are prospects of a continuance of the fog. Many communication services are disorganised, and the Atlantic liners are held up,—A. and N.Z. P.A. PRINCE’S APPEAL. —The Prince of Wales, who has become patron of the Lord Mayor’s fund to assist the miners, has issued an appeal for a combined effort to help the women and children, to allevhite suffering, and to rekindle hope among the distressed miners.—A.P.A.-U.S. SCHNEIDER CUP KaCE.—The French Aero Club intends to enter two seaplanes for the race for the Schneider Cup next year, which will be held over the Solent. —A. and N.Z. P.A. LARGEST ICE RINK —Lady Hoare, the wife of Sir Samuel Hoare, British Secretary of State for Air, on Tuesday opened the world’s largest indoor icerink at Richmond. The rink is 286 ft bv 85ft, and accommodates 1.000 skaters. The galleries seat 2,500 spectators.—a. and N.Z. P.A. -CELTIC WRECK —Work has ceased on board the Celtic, which is on the rocks at Queenstown, ow’ng to the weather and sea conditions being worse. The White Star line superintendent at Queenstown has notified the company that it is proved that there is extensive damage to the ship s bottom. making the salvage «.f the ship impracticable. In his opinion further named Webb saw them coming and, A. and N.Z.-P.A. PLANE HITS CAR.—A collision between a plane and a motor-car, the first accident of this sort, occurred at Ramsgate, England. A large twinengined airplane was taxi-ing to the airdrome when it crashed into a motor-car and also into a bus which was traversing the road through the airdrome The car was smashed and its occupants had narrow' escapes from injury.—A. and N.Z.
