ALTERATION ASKED FOR “UNIMPROVED” SYSTEM To alter the present system of rating to rating on unimproved values is a new movement on foot in the Waitemata County. At yesterday’s meeting of the council the clerk reported that two ratepayers had called on him, and said they proposed to present a requisition demanding that a proposal to adopt the system of unimproved rating should be submitted to a poll of ratepayers. The clerk said he had pointed out to them that the Act provided a poll should be taken over the whole county on a date not less than 21 or more than 28 clear days after the delivery of the demands, and that the Christmas vacation limiting the time available, and tiie factor of expense, should be considered by them. ”1 suggested the proposal might be submitted at the same time as the four electoral issues next May, but they stated that they desired to have the poll before the end of the financial year, in order that rating on unimproved values might come into force at the beginning of next April, otherwise they would have to wait 12 months." Tho ratepayers desiring the change ■were understood to be waiting on the council as a deputation, but as they did not appear, the question was not pursued.
