MARRIED 50 YEARS

MR. AND MRS. E. R. VICKERMAN The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Robert Vickerman was celebrated yesterday at their home at 8 Station Terrace. Mr. Vickerman’s parents arrived in New Zealand in the ship Kelso in 1849. They settled at Nelson, and shortly after Mr. Vickerman was born. He was employed for many years by the Union Bank of Australia, and has managed several of the bank’s branches in New Zealand. When he was in charge of the Lyttelton branch in 1913 he retired, and he is now employed by Wilson’s Portland Cement Company. Mrs. Vickerman is the daughter of the late Dr. G. M. Darcy-Irvine, of Fermanagh, Ireland. In 1872 she came to New Zealand in the ship Melita, and she and her parents settled at Waipukurau, later moving to Napier. Mr. and Mrs. Vickerman were married in 1878 by the Rev. de Berdt Hovell, in Napier. They have four sons and one daughter living, and five grandchildren.
