BELL BIRDS ON MOTUIHI
PLEA FOR PRESERVATION “Few people are aware that bell birds are on Motuihi Island,” said Mr. -A. T. Pycroft at yesterday’s meeting of the council of the Auckland Institute and Museum. He made a plea * for the broadcast of this information, together with an appeal far public support in the protection and encouragement of these sweet-voiced songsters now that the island was to be available for excursionists. aro all Pleased to learn that the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, is taking action to protect the bell birds on the island,’’ he remarked, adding also that the feathered New Zealanders renowned from the days of Captain Cook were now exceedingly rare in the Northern part of the province, where they were once plentiful.
