TO MEET ON SATURDAY
NEW TRANSPORT BOARD CHOOSING A CHAIRMAN The Auckland Transport Board will hold its first meeting on Saturday morning, and wili eiect a chairman and transact other formal business. In view of there being no provision in the Transport Board Act for the calling of the first meeting, advantage has been taken of a provision in the Act by which any three members can, by requisition, call a meeting of the board. This morning four of the City Council members—the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, and Councillors J. A. C. Allum, G. Ashley, and E. J. Phelan—met and signed the formal requisition, and the meeting was provisionally called for Saturday morning. The appointment of. the chairman, who is chosen by the members, will be the most important business, and it will be early in the New Year before the board finally appoints its secretary and any other special executive officials necessary to the carrying on of its business.
