Gordon, of Epsom, is visiting Wellington and is staying with her daughter, Mrs. Barnaby, of Hataitai. Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Carroll, of Wellington, and Mr. and Mrs. E. McLaren, of Wairarapa, are staying at the Star Hotel. Miss Hewitt, of was inAuckland for a few days and left by the Niagara for a holiday visit to Honolulu. * * Mr. and Mrs. It. FAREWELL EVENING KNOX CHURCH FUNCTION Mr. G. H. Cornes was entertained last evening by the congregation of Knox Church, Parnell, at a valedictory social before his departure for Wellington to take up the position of subcolleetor for customs. The Rev. MacDonald Aspland spoke of the long association with Knox Church held by Mr. Cornes and his family, they having been among the original members 30 years ago. Mr. Aspland presented Mr. Cornes on behalf of the congregation with a travelling rug. Mrs. Cornes was the recipient of a handbag, the presentation being made by Mrs. W. Fegan. Apologies for absence were received from Mr. G. Harold Hardev, and eulogistic speeches were made by Mr. Bullen and Mr. R. L. Paterson, who is Mr. Cornes’s successor in his church duties. Mr. William Morrison said farewell to the Misses Joyce, Irene, Althea and Master Eric Cornes on behalf of the Sunday school and Bible class. Items were given during the evening by the following: Pianoforte solo, Miss E. Paterson: song, Mrs. Kay; recitation, Mrs. G. W. Bagnie; violin solo, Miss Widdieomb: song. Miss Craig: recitation, Miss Walker; song, Miss M. Paterson; violin solo, Mr. G. H. Cornes. FELIX CLUB DANCE The final dance of the Felix Club was held on Saturday evening in the Mount Roskill Flail which was decorated with festoons of streamers, paper flowers and foliage, and a Christmas Tree. The winners of the spot dance and Monte Carlo received gifts from the Christmas Ti'ee. The dance was organised by the Misses O’Shea and the Misses Monk. Thomas, Coyle, Wilkinson and Small. QUEEN CAKES Beat 2oz of butter and 4oz of caster sugar to a cream, add two eggs, one by one, beating each in wel. Sieve tioz of flour with half a teaspoonful of baking powder, and a pinch of salt, and stir it lightly to the butter mixture, adding a very little milk if the mixture be too dry. Add loz of glace cherries cut in quarters, and the grated rind of a lemon. Half-fill some small greased tins with the mixture, and bake in a fairly hot oven about 15 minutes. Currants or sultanas may replace cherries, and a few chopped almonds may be added.
