MISSING A WEEK
LAUNCH AND TWO MEN SEARCH PROVES FRUITLESS Press Association IN VERCARGILL, . T uesday. The master of the steamer Awarua, which arrived at Blufli this evening, reports that a launch and its crew attached to the vessel have been missing since the afternoon of December 12. The missing men are I). Browne, of Shetland Island, and J. Phillips, of Stewart Island. When the launch did not return in the early evening of December 12 another launch manned by fishermen set out in search, but without success. At four o’clock the next morning three launches commenced a search of every locality in which it was considered the men .were likely to be. One boat picked up an oar on the east side of Five Finger Peninsula, but no trace of the missing men was discovered.
When the launch was last seen all seemed to be going well and it is difficult to surmise what has happened.
