MANGERE WATER SUPPLY
INVESTIGATIONS AT MOUNT MANUKAU COUNTY AFFAIRS Although investigations for a permanent water supply at Mangere had been continued, no copious supply had yet been tapped, reported the engineer, Mr, J. R. Page, to a meeting of the Manukau County Council yesterday. The Public Works Department and the Main Highways Board had approved the proposals for the expenditure of the pound,for-pound subsidies on the Buckland’s Beach Road and the HowickManurewa main highway at the Maungaroa Gorge. The carrying out of these works was dependent upon riding finance, and it was suggested that the caling of tenders for one or more contracts could be considered earlv in February. The plans, specifications and estimate for the reconstruction of the Papakura Stream Bridge on the Great South Road had been prepared, and the new design showed a bridge with a 20ft. roadway and a footpath 4ft. wide on each side. Satisfactory progress with the widengeneral improvement cf the vV aikopua-Maraetai Road had been made and could be completed early in the New ear. The Public Works Department had approved the plans and specifications for widening and culverting work <>n Siberia Hill, and authority to expend the grant was expected at an early date. Anticipating this authority, and in order to expedite the work, tenders, which would be considered on Friday, had been called The reconstruction of Bull’s bridge was well in hand.
The Public Works Department wrote a skmg whether the council considered it advisable to abolish the No. 1 omnibus district in view of the separation of the Auckland transport district from the area.
