Tho Chief Rabbi of the British Empire, the Rev. Dr. J. H. Hertz, in conferring the honour on Mr. Goldstein, wrote from London: “I leajrn with the deepest gratifio tion that you will soon complete 5u years in your ministry to the Auckland Hebrew congregation. Fifty years—that means a life-time—spent in the service of Israel and humanity, on the part of a man of culture and character, is something that should evoke feelings of respect and gratitude, not only of the members of the Auckland
Hebrew Congregation, but of the whole British Jewry. “Both my colleagues on the Ecclesiastical Court (London Deth Din), and I fully share that respect and gratitude; and with their whole-hearted concurrence I now gladly confer upon you the title ‘Morenu’ in recognition of the life-time you have devoted to the cause of Judaism. You have striven to live ip to the ideal of the Jewish Teacher, ;as described by the prophet of old— The Law of Truth was in his mouth, I and unrighteousness was not found in j bis lips: be walked with Me in peace and übrightness. and did turn away many from iniquity.' -
