CHINESE FINED £25
STAYED TOO LONG IN N.Z. ORDERED TO BE DEPORTED Fan Young, a young Ch inese, who stayed in New Zealand nearly a year longer than the terms of his temporary immigration permit allowed, was fined £25 at the Police Court this morning. According to Mr. J. A. Mclntosh, Collector of Customs, Young had been notified that his permit had expired last February, but with no result. Mr. A. M. Goulding, for Young, urged that the man did not understand what the Customs authorities' notice was about. Counsel asked for leniency, saying that his client was prepared to leave the Dominion on January 4. A deportation order was made and default was fixed at one month’s imprisonment.
