CAPITOL

"THE PRODIGAL SON” “The Prodigal Son.' based on Sir Hall Caine’s novel, will be shown at the Capitol Theatre this evening. “The Prodigal Son” is a very line story, and it makes a wonderful film play, full of dramatic situations, of human pathos that tears at the heart strings, full of impulses and emotions which people understand and appreciate because they themselves experience very similar ones. It has its crowds, it has its spectacles, it has its moments of overwhelming grandeur; but. almost entirely it is concerned with the story of two brothers, their jealousies and their mistakes, their filings and their unsuspected qualities. There is never a moment in “The Prodigal Son” when the interest flags. “Diamond Handcuffs.” the second picture, is a drama in three acts of the trail of a diamond from the mines of Africa to London, and to the underworld of New York. Joseph Henaberrv has been assigned by Carl Laeramle to direct Reginald Denny in “Clear the Deck.’ This is the releasing title of E. J. Rath’s story. “When the Devil Was Sick.” The continuity has been prepared by Earl Snell and Gladys Lehman. Olive Hasbrouck will be leading lady if previous engagements will permit.

“The Woman Disputed” has its scenes on the Austrlan-Russian border during the early days of the World War. Miss Nonna Talmadge plays a street girl, loved by two friends, officers in enemy armies. Beautiful Phyllis Haver is starred in “The Shady Lady,’* now in course of production at the Pathe Studios. Culver City. This picture will be released by the British Film Service, I Ad., in 1929. “The Girl in the Pullman.” Marie Prevost, is on the release list of Regent Theatres. Auckland, early in the New Year. Marie used to belong to the set of feminine stars who plastered one another with custard pies. She now makes a hit in comedy of a finer nature.
