“THE VANISHING PIONEER” The last days of the intrepid pioneers, who drove their covered wagons into the unknown West, woven into a romance by the master pen of Zane Grey, makes “The Vanishing Poneer,” which is now’ at the Edendale Theatre. Jack Holt, the ideal type of virile manhood for a Zane Grey story, has the leading role of John Ballard, a pioneer settler in Happy Valley. The city of Metropolis needs water. Murdock, a corrupt politician, heads a committee from the city which comes to Happy Valley to secure the water rights by fair means or foul. John Ballard leads the ranchers’ fight to retain then* rights, but a rancher is killed and Ballard is arrested for the murder. “The Prodigal Son.” a drama based on Sir Hall Caine's well-know*n novel, is the second attraction. Bessie Love and Anita Page will play the two leading feminine roles in ’ Broadway Melody.” an original story by Edmund Goulding, which Harry Beaumont will direct for Metro-Gold-wyn- Mayer. This highly dramatic story deals with life along Broadway’s White Way.
