Minister °f Public A\ orks, said the new Cab r was looking forward to having the opportunity of again placing New Zea.land in the forefront by enacting beni " tlcent legislation and making the Dominion an object lesson to other parts of the Empire. ■While he was convinced there wer> ample funds in the country at present he was satisfied there had been a lack of confidence among those handling large commercial and financial eon* cerns, who had been afraid of placing fresh moneys in circulation. if t h.. new Government could restore cons dence in their financial institutions' and find an outlet in new works of a profitable nature, much of the stress would be overcome and the Dommior would be on the fair way to progres once again. As Minister of Public Works he had to deal with the great question of un employment. As it was one of thserious problems had to be grappled with he was making investi. gations with a view to having certain lands brought into use which, with certain amount of development, would eventually be made profitable. Then lands could absorb some of the mei at present unemployed, and this would go a long way toward the alleviation of the position. Eventually he hoped to clear up permanently "the seriou difficulty
