NEW REGENT

“KIT CARSON” Magnificent scenic backgrounds, spectacular dashes of Indian hordes, and a swiftly moving story in wliich the spirit of the west of 90 years ago has been caught, are the outsanding features of Fred Thomson’s Paramount picture, “Kit Carson,” which is now being shown at the New Regent Theatre. In the broad sweep of the narrative has been woven the threads of two love stories which figured in the life of the famous trapper and scout—-that of an Indian girl for Kit Carson, played by the western star, and that of Kit Carson for a beautiful Spanish girl. It has its lighter moments, too, with a series of old time trappers at play. Silver King, Mr. Thomson’s famous white horse, contributes his share both to the drama and the laughter. Tlie cast is exceptionally strong. Raoul Paoli, as the French-Canadian trapper and rival of Kit, gives a most distinguished performance. Nora Lane and Dorothy Janis have the leading feminine roles. The film was taken in its entirety on the Navajo Indian reservation in Arizona, and a great deal of reseai*cli work was undergone by Mr. Thomson in giving the picture an authentic touch. Few pictures can compare with this production for sheer pictorial beauty, but the direMors did not allow their fondness for background to interfere with the development of their story. An equally fine picture is “The Mating Call,” Thomas Meigh»n’s latest, picture, which is on. the ime programme. He is supported by a strong cast which includes both Evelyn Brent and Renee Adoree. Interesting suporting films and tuneful music by Mr. Maurice Guttridge’s Regent Operatic Orchestra complete the programme. To-morrow the New Regent will present its great Christmas attraction, known as Schistl’s Wonderettes, a unique vaudeville attraction which should prove interesting and amusing to both young and old. The performance will include 300 little folk or marionettes in fascinating dances and amusing sketches.
