“MESSIAH” FOR CHILDREN

FREE CONCERT AT TOWN HALL About 300 school children attended a free performance of the “Messiah.” given by the Auckland Choral Society at the Town Hall yesterday afternoon. It was expected that the attendance would have been much larger. Mr. Colin Muston conducted with his usual skill and artistry, and the soloists. Miss Alma McGruer, Miss Beryl Smith, Mr. Birrell O’Malley and Mr. Frank Sutherland, were all responsible for good performances. SECRET SERVICE STORY With a very strong cast and an excellent melodramatic plot, “A Woman Redeemed” is a British production scheuduled for early screenings by British Dominions films. The story concerns Geoffrey Wayneflete, an army airplane inventor whose wife is forced into stealing his plans by a foreign gang of spies. Many elaborate scenes are portrayed including that of a Parisian carnival. Brian Aherne. the eminent English actor, is well cast in the part of Geoffrey Wayneflete, and Joan Lockton, a beautiful blonde, plays the part of the young wife with great success, and the right spirit of the drama.
