WITH STOLEN CHEQUE-BOOK SENTENCE ON MONDAY Equipped with a complete new outfit and having a few pounds in his pocket to go on with, Richard Howe was charged at the Police Court yesterday with obtaining goods by means of valueless cheques. He admitted two charges of obtaining clothing, valued at £l6 by those means, and another charge of attempting to gain possession of a gramophone, also by tendering a bogus cheque. A further charge of breaking and entering the house of Walter Blair at Papakura. and stealing a cheque book was reduced to theft, Ilowe then pleading guilty. According to Chief-Detective Hammond, Howe, after stealing the cheque book, had gone on a shopping expedition working on the cheques. He was remanded until Monday for sentence.
