The latter is the director of the "Trail of ’98,” a picture which is described as being "the most wonderful achievement in film hisTlie following Is a resume of some of the early releases for 1929: "The Trail of ’98,” which is unques- • onably one of the finest motion pict'lres ever produced, is an adaptation of Robert W. Service’s novel. Stories r r gold stampedes have been filmed be•ore, but never on the scale as dented in this masterpiece. The director shows the cruelties of nature, and die terrific obstacles that had to be overcome to wrest the yellow metal from tile earth. One of the most dramatic motion pictures that has been produced for a very long time is "The Enemy,” staring the first lady of the screen, Lillian Gish, Ralph Forbes, Karl Dane, George Fawcvt, and Polly Moran. The pic;urs was produced by Fred Niblo, and is an adaptation of Channing Pollock’s stage play. Lillian Gish also has the starring role in "The Wind,” in which Lars Hansen afipears with her. The New Zealand Government scenics have been released exclusively through Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer since the company commenced operations in Xew Zealand, and they are all released in Australia and America. These scenics form a very interesting part of the programme, and they will also form a part of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s programme for next year.
