MR. E. L. RUTLEDGE

FOX FILMS Consistency in his work, a knowledge of the motion picture business from the ground floor up, and loyalty to the firm have contributed in no small measure to the recognition given to Mr. E. L. Rutledge, who is New Zealand manager of the Fox Film Co*-* poration an appointment given to him as a tribute to these essentials, combined with an efficiency which has marked his work throughout a period of over seven years with the organisation.

Fox Films was the first motion picture exchange with which Mr. Rutledge was associated —he joined them in 1921, not long after his return from the war. He became assistant-manager of the Sydney office in 1922, and a year later was appointed branch manager in Perth. The West Australian Office is a most difficult one to control because of its comparative isolation and scattered territory. Only a sound business man—and one accustomed to hard work—can be entrusted to the position. The selection of Mr. Rutledge was therefore a tribute to his ability. Then in 1925 there followed a year as branch manager of the Adelaide office, returning to Perth for only a short time to supervise the completion of the new building. Opportunity for further advancement came when Stanley S. Crick, genenarl manager for Australasia, decided on a manager for Wellington. The qualifications called for sound organising ability, a natural gift of salesmanship, and an all-round knowledge of men and methods connected with the industry. Mr. Rutledge qualified in these respects. Earnest to a degree, straightforward in all his transactions, and with a reputation for honesty of purpose, the banner of Fox is well planted in New Zealand under the guidance of Mr. E. L. Rutledge. Mr. E. E. Rutledge is vice-president of the N.Z. Film Exchanges Association.
