HEADMASTER RETIRES
AFTER 45 YEARS’ SERVICE MR. J. WOOLLER’S RECORD Forty-five years’ service with the Education Board will have been completed at the end : of this school year by Mr. J. Wooller, headmaster of the Newton West School, whose retirement on superannuation was marked by a suitable presentation this afternoon. It was in ISB3 that Mr. Wooller entered the service of the Auckland Eduj cation Board as a clerk. Six years later he became a teacher, and was appointed a probationer at the Newton West School. He then became for six months an assistant at the Mount Eden school, * and later had
charge of two half-time schools at Mahurangi Heads, Workworth. Following that, Mr. Wooller was at the Hikui rangi school for seven years, r Eighteen year, from 1902 to 1920, ! were then spent at the Ellerslie school, of which he was headmaster, during which time the school was particu--1 larly noted for its efficiency at sports. ! While at Ellerslie. Mr. Wooller also ' took a deep interest in public matters, j and was a member of the Ellerslie ■ Town Board for four years. The reI* maining period has been spent at Xew ton West, the school he first Joined as a probationary teacher. Mr. Wooller was formerly president of the Auckland Headmasters’ Association. He played representative Rugby for Auckland in ISSI and ISB7, and is also well known in bowling circles, having been eight times champion at the Remuera green, and is a past president of the club. <
