Poets’ Corner
SALE-TIME (Written for THE SUNJ I saw fine ladies walking In coloured gowns most gay, Bright silks and satins stalking One brilliant summer's day. They jostled, hot and panting, Among the things they sought. And in their stuffy hundreds Fine things they touched and bought. I tookt no silks and satins Upon that summer’s day, But lay upon a windy hill And turned the hours away. 1 found no more than Quiet, And soft clouds passing over A silver flash of hidden birds Above a field of clover. And only saw a silken wind Go through the shining grass, And, luminously in slim trees, Turn their bright leaves, and pass . . Gay silks and satins wear and tear, Guarded no matter how. But Beauty doesn’t fray, so I Wonder w'.to’s richer note? UNA CURRIE. Auckland.
