TE PAPAPA PRIZES REWARD OF HARD WORK “Education does not mean the mere acquisition of knowledge. “Th© development of the moral qualities of honesty, determination, generosity and truth in order that the character of each boy and girl may be built up into useful citizenship is equally important.” The Rev. D. D. Scott made this statement at the annual presentation of the Buchanan prizes at the Te Papapa School this morning. The prizes are the interest of a capital fund vested with the Public Trustee in perpetuity by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Buchanan, of Quadrant Road, Onehunga, for pupils of the Te Papapa and Onehunga Schools. This morning the donors presented th© prizes to Florence Harvey and Thomas Knox, each receiving a cheque for £6. The headmaster, Mr. H. T. Tho chief object of the award was not for excellent work or special cleverness in any subject. “The reward is a recognition of hard work, the best fight put up against difficulties and the capacity for beating down the obstacles of life.” The Rev. H. M.
