Hen eggs are now bringing 1s 4d to 1s 5d a dozen; intermediate size, 1s 2d to 1s 3d a dozen; and duck eggs, 1s 2d to 1s 3d a dozen. The supply is moderate and the demand is improving. The price for farmers’ butter has increased. It is now 1s 2d to 1s a lb. The demand is improving. In the shops first-grade factory butter is selling at 1s 9d a lb. and second-grade a penny less. The price across the counter for leg of spring lamb is 1s 4d a lb.; loin and hindquarter, 1s 3d; forequarter, 1s 1d; leg of mutton, 9d; hind quarters, 9d; forequarters, 7d; shoulders and necks, leg and loin chops, 11d; neck chops, 8d; trimmed cutlets, 1s 1d; prime rib of beef, 7d; corned round and beef steak, 8d; suet, gravy beef and sausages, 6d; rump steak, 1s 2d; sirloin, 10d; chuck rib, 7d. In the vegetable market, cabbages are selling at 1s to 2s 6d a dozen; cauliflowers, 1s 6d to 5s a dozen; cucumbers, 3s to 9s a dozen; carrots, beet, parsnips and turnips, 6d to 1s 3d a dozen bundles; leeks, 3d to 5d a bundle; radish, 6d a dozen bundles; new potatoes, 4s to 6s a bag; lettuces. 1s to 3s a case; French beans, 3d a lb; broad beans, 2s 6d a bag; spinach, 6d to 9d a dozen bundles; spring onions, 6d to 1s a bundle; green peas, 2s to 4s a bag.
