CONDITION OF ROADS
WEEKLY A.A.A. REPORT RAIN CAUSES TROUBLE The weekly report of the Auckland I Automobile Association, covering clay , roads, contains the following information: — PIOPIO-OH UR A: Generally very rough. . Wet patches and slips. Flat Road in very bad order. Aria-Matiere-Ohura route not recommended. I MATIERE-OKAIiUKURA: Cars being ! railed. TOKARDIU JUNCTION: Taumarunui. I Minor slips, rough, narrow. OHURA-STRATFORD: Fair order. OHURA-TOXGAPORUTL": Closed TE KI’ITI- TAUMARL'N IT : Advice is to travel by New Plymouth Road for eight miles, then via Mapara-Aratora deviation ' and Ongarue. Portions rough. TAI'MARUNUI - NATIONAL PARK Difficulty south of Oio. Chains probably required. Keep to old road on deviation. NATIONAL * PARK-TAUPO: Good order, but rain and heavy traffic may cut up road near Lake Roto Aira. TOKAANU-WAIOURU: Eastern side of National Park graded. Prospects good. RAETIHI - OHAKUNE - WAIOURU: Portion between Ohakune and Waiouru still unmetalled RAETIHI - WANGANUI: Reconstruction in progress. WANGANUI - MANGAMAHU KARIOI: Opening delayed for bridges, j NORTH AUCKLAND: Conditions have been bad, and some places have been . closed during past week, but yesterday ; they were drying again, and there was a j possibility of using them without chains, j COROMANDEL: Roads drying. BAY OF PLENTY: Most of the roads j j are carrying traffic satisfactorily, but j i maintenance is urgently required between |Te Puke and Tauranga. Tauranga-Waihi j is very rough. j Heavy- rain on the Gisborne side of j Motu has caused railing of ears again. Kaimai Hill developed a few bad j patches last week, but these are to re- i ceive attention. All weather surfaces are provided be- j tween Te Awamutu and Raglan and ! Kawliia. AUCKLAND TO HAMILTON: The heavy loose surface which lias been 1 adopted for maintenance on this road is somewhat improved and the notorious swamp section of the Rangiriri deviation is now receiving attention. During the holiday- months motorists are urged to drive carefully over this route. TAUPO: The Taupo Road has suffered with the recent wet weather in the vicinity- of Tokoroa, and during the holidayperiod chains may be required if there is continuous heavy rain, otherwise the road is in good order. All other routes in this area provide comfortable travelling.
