ROUGH METAL ON ROADS
MOTORISTS COMPLAIN A .A. A. TAKES ACTION Motorists travelling over the PaeroaTauranga road are complaining of the very rough condition of the Karanga-hake-Waihi section of this highway, a portion of which has been taken over by the Main Highways Board for maintenance. Complaints are also being received with regard to a portion of the WaihiKatikati Road, where rough metal makes a very uncomfortable surface. The question has been referred to the Auckland Automobile Association which is making representations to tho district engineer of the Public Works Department and the chairman of the Main Highways Board. The council of the A.AJX. decided last evening to draw particular attention to the loose metal on the swamp portion of the Rangiriri deviation, which was described as a positive danger. The council is awaiting a reply from the Waipa County about the loose ridges of pumice and sand on tho Ngaruawahia-Hamilton Road. “I see by The Sun that the county says the road is all right if the motorists do not speed, and the council is going to do nothing,” said Mr. F. G. Farrell. Mr. G. Grayson: They tried to get a 25-mile-an-hour limit all over the county, and are now putting this up. We are entitled to something better on a main road. Mr. W. J. King, a visitor from Hamilton, said the county was removing the loose material in any case.
