Mr. A. Massey arrived in Auckland this morning from Dunedin. The Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon. is indisposed, and is confined to his home to-day. The lion Vernon Reed, M.L.G., was a passenger from Wellington by the , xpress this morning. Mr. M. Carr, of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. arrived in Auckland this morning by the Limited. Mr. Miles C. Feathertsone. London director and manager of Wright, Stephenson and Co., is visiting- New Zealand. The Acting Consul-General of the Republic of China, Mr. K.. F. Wu, has been appointed Consul in New Zealand. Mr. Paul Curtis, a retired inspector „f the Post and Telegraph Department, who has been on a world tour, returned to Auckland yesterday. Captain Ross Clark, master of the steamer Kurow, has been appointed >econd pilot at Bluff in place of Captain Schofield, who has resigned.—P.A. Captain J. K. Middleton. D. 5.0., R.N.V.R., Director of Naval Reserves, arrived from Wellington this morning, tie is staying at the Star Hotel. Mr. W. I>. Lambic, acting-Britisli Trade Commissioner, arrived from Wellington by the Limited this morning. He will go South, again this evening. Mr. C. B. Norwood, managing director of Dominion Motors, and Mr. A. W. Duncan, general manager, arrived from Wellington by the Limited this morning. and are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. J. E. Close, chairman of the Works Committee of the Takapuna Borough Council, and Mrs. Close will leave for a world tour at the end of this month. Major-General Sir George Richardson, late Administrator of the mandated territory of Western Samoa, will arrive in Auckland early next week. He proposes to live here for some time. Mr. T. J. Grose, general manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, has been elected to the chairmanship of the Associated Banks. Mr. Grose, who is at present in Hamilton, -will probably arrive in Auckland to-morrow afternoon. Mr. W. A. Carruth has retired from the chairmanship of the Board of Governors of the Whangarei High School, after holding the position for 11 years. Mr. H. C. Rush worth has been appointed in his stead.
