SCHOOL STAFF CHANGES

TOO FREQUENT, SAYS COMMITTEE NOT FAIR TO CHILDREN The effect on school children of frequent changes of teachers is viewed with alarm by the Auckland Primary School Committee*’ Association, which held its quarterly meeting last evening, Mr. G. E. Spooner presiding. A special committee set up at the last meeting of the association to go into the question of staffing reported, through Mr. G. Brownlee, that the system was so complicated that it could not be controlled in any hard and fast manner. The committee could do nothing, not having the amount of time necessary to collect the voluminous evidence that the subject called for. It could only suggest that the progress of events be watched closely, in order that proposals might be made to the Education Department. A resolution, suggested by the committee, was passed as follows:—“The Auckland School Committees' Association would again bring under the notice of the Minister of Education the serious loss caused to primary school children by the frequent changes which occur i a the teaching staffs of the schools, and which appear to a great extent to be caused by the system in operation. We suggest that this question be seriously considered with a view to steps being taken to effect an improvement.” Mr. G. Brownlee was appointed editor of the association journal, to W'hieh four extra pages were added in the last issue. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Archie Sando, who represented the association on the Syllabus Revision Committee at Wellington. Motions of condolence were passed with the relatives of the Rev. D. J. Murray and Mr. F. H. Brinsden, members of the association, who had died since the last meeting, and with Mr. T. U. Wells, a member of the Auckland Education Board, whose wife had died. The Hon. A. J. Stallworthy, who had represented the Dargaville committee on the association, was congratulated on his accession to Ministerial rank. /
