“CAPITALISE ROADS”

MOTORISTS’ DESIRE

LEGISLATIVE QUESTIONS For a considerable period the A.A.A. has been advocating 1 the capitalisation of the roading funds, and a larger programme of permanent works. With the new Government it hopes that it may be more successful. The Hamilton branch of the association wrote to the council of the A.A.A. last evening advocating this action. “At present the motorists are buying the roads, and will get delivery in a few years' time,” Mr. A. Grayson remarked. The suggestion will be placed on the order paper for a North Island conference in February. At the same time a further effort will be launched to secure more representation for motorists on the Highways Board. “The motorists are providing practically all the funds, and have one representative in six,” said Mr. G. Hutchison. In addition the February conference will be asked to seek an amendment to the regulations providing that local restrictions must be approved by the Minister before becoming operative.
